Indications

Pharmacology
- Beta-1 selective (cardioselective) beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist
Dosage & Administration

Interactions
- Additive effect with catecholamine-depleting drugs
- Additive effect with calcium channel blockers
- Potent negative inotropic and chronotropic effects with disopyramide
- Additive negative chronotropic properties with amiodarone
- Exacerbation of rebound hypertension with clonidine withdrawal
- Decreased hypotensive effects with prostaglandin synthase inhibiting drugs
- Increased risk of severe allergic reaction in patients with history of anaphylactic reaction
Contraindications
- Sinus bradycardia
- Greater than first degree heart block
- Cardiogenic shock
- Overt cardiac failure
- Hypersensitivity to atenolol or its components

- Mesenteric arterial thrombosis
