Indications

Pharmacology
- Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Active against gram-positive bacteria
- Active against some gram-negative bacteria
- Neomycin binds to bacterial ribosome
- Inhibits protein synthesis
- Disrupts DNA synthesis
- Active against gram-negative aerobes
- Active against some strains of staphylococci
Dosage & Administration
- Ointment for cleaning affected area
- Apply 2-3 times daily to affected skin
- Dusting Powder for superficial skin infections
- Apply light dusting up to 4 times daily
Interaction
- Bacitracin Zinc: Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with other drugs
- May enhance the action of neuromuscular-blocking agents
- Neomycin Sulphate: Additive nephrotoxic effect with other drugs
- Enhanced toxicity with potent diuretics
- May impair the absorption of other drugs
- May alter INR when given with anticoagulants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if benefit justifies risk to fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use on large open wounds
- Avoid use on severely injured skin
- Avoid use on areas with large volumes of fluid
- Avoid use in otitis external with perforated eardrum
- Consult a physician for deep wounds, animal bites, or serious burns
- Discontinue if condition persists or worsens
- Not recommended for longer than 1 week without physician's direction
Use in Special Populations
- Suitable for use in children at adult dose
- Dose should be reduced in infants
- Not recommended for neonates
