Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Adult dose is 1 tablet daily
Interaction
- Decreased absorption of beta carotene with cholestyramine
- Decreased absorption of beta carotene with colestipol
- Decreased absorption of beta carotene with neomycin
- Reduced circulating vitamin C levels with prolonged administration of oral contraceptives
- Reduced circulating vitamin C levels with tetracycline administration
- Reduced circulating vitamin C levels with aspirin administration
- Enhanced anticoagulant activity by vitamin E
- Impaired intestinal absorption of vitamins A and K by high doses of vitamin E
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Hypercarotenosis with high and prolonged exposure to beta carotene
- Gastrointestinal upset with high doses of vitamin C
- Renal stone formation with high doses of vitamin C
- Diarrhoea with doses over 800mg of vitamin E
- Abdominal pain or cramps with doses over 800mg of vitamin E
- Fatigue with doses over 800mg of vitamin E
- Reduced resistance to bacterial infection with doses over 800mg of vitamin E
- Transiently raised blood pressure with doses over 800mg of vitamin E
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No teratogenic effects in humans for beta carotene
- Caution in prescribing to pregnant women
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in heavy smokers and alcoholics for beta carotene
- Caution in patients with hyperoxaluria for vitamin C
- Caution in patients taking anticoagulant drugs for vitamin E
