Description
- Histamine analog
- improves circulation in the inner ear
- pressure reduction on membranous labyrinth
Pharmacology
- Acts as a histamine H1-receptor agonist
- vasodilatory effect
- reduction in endolymphatic pressure
- reduces asymmetrical functioning of sensory vestibular organs
- increases vestibulocochlear blood flow
- increases turnover of histamine from postsynaptic histaminergic nerve receptors
- antagonizes histamine H3-receptors
- elevates neurotransmitter levels including serotonin
Dosage & Administration
- Initial oral treatment 8 to 16mg three times daily
- maintenance doses 24-48 mg daily
- preferably taken with meals

- limited data in the elderly
- not recommended for use in children and adolescents below age 18
Interaction
- No proven cases of hazardous interactions
- potential interaction with ethanol
- potentiation with salbutamol

- Phaeochromocytoma
