Pharmacology
- Synthetic glucocorticoid
- Decreases inflammation

Dosage & Administration
- Oral dosages range from 1 mg to 10 mg in adults
- Oral dosages range from 0.03-0.20 mg/kg in children
- Can be given by intravenous or intramuscular injection
- Dosage depends on severity of the condition and patient's response
Interactions
- Possible interaction with diuretics and cardiac glycosides
- Interaction with antidiabetic drugs
- Potential interaction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Contraindications
- Not recommended for gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections
- Avoid in viral infections like varicella and herpes genitalis
- Not to be used in glaucoma
- Hypersensitivity to corticosteroids is a contraindication
