Description
- Nictoris is indicated for the prevention and long-term treatment of angina pectoris.
- Nicorandil dilates arterioles and large coronary arteries by opening the potassium channels, and stimulates guanylate cyclase causing venous vasodilatation. It therefore reduces preload and afterload, and improves coronary blood flow.

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- Usual therapeutic range of 10 to 20 mg twice daily
- Starting dose of 10 mg twice daily
- Titration upwards may be necessary
- Low starting dose of 5 mg twice daily for patients prone to headache
- No special dosage requirements for elderly patients
- Not recommended for children
- Dose reduction may be necessary for patients with hepatic impairment
Interaction
- Potentiation of the effect of other vasodilators, tricyclic antidepressants, and antihypertensive drugs
- Possible interaction with alcohol
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Nicorandil
- Cardiogenic shock
- Acute myocardial infarction with acute left ventricular failure and low filling pressures
- Hypotension
- Use with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors
- Caution advised for patients with blood volume depletion or low systolic blood pressure
- Caution advised for patients with glaucoma

Precautions & Warnings
- Hypovolaemia
- Low systolic BP
- Acute pulmonary oedema
- May impair ability to drive or operate machinery
Overdose Effects
- Peripheral vasodilation with a fall in blood pressure
- Reflex tachycardia
- Monitoring of cardiac function and general supportive measures should be used
- Administration of vasopressors may be considered in life-threatening situations
