Indications
- Treatment of superficial infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Treatment of burns, wounds, ulceration, otitis externa, postoperative infections, neuro-dermatitis, and eczema
- Adjunct to systemic steroid therapy in special pyoderma cases
Pharmacology
- Betamethasone as active topical corticosteroid for inflammatory dermatoses and psoriasis
- Neomycin Sulfate as topical broad-spectrum bactericidal amino-glycoside
- Effective penetration and uniform distribution capacity
- Treatment of wet ulceration of the skin
Dosage & Administration
- Adult application: thin layer to affected skin 3-4 times daily
- Chronic conditions may require decreased frequency of application
- Children under 1 year should not use
- Course of treatment for children typically not more than 5 days
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported with Betamethasone Valerate BP and Neomycin Sulphate BP Cream/Ointment
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Not for the treatment of otitis externa with perforated eardrum
- Contraindicated in skin lesions caused by viruses and fungi
Side Effects
- Prolonged/high doses may cause Cushing's syndrome, acne, thinning and dilatation of blood vessels
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for extensive use during pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous topical therapy to prevent resistant microorganisms
- Use accurate dose in infected areas only
