Indications
- Expectoration in upper respiratory inflammation (pharyngitis, laryngitis)
- Expectoration in acute bronchitis
- Expectoration in bronchial asthma
- Expectoration in chronic bronchitis
- Expectoration in bronchiectasis
- Expectoration in pulmonary tuberculosis
- Drainage in chronic sinusitis

Pharmacology
- Reduces viscosity of non-infected secretions from mucous cells
- Breaks disulphide bonds in mucus
- Alters local ionic charges affecting mucus viscosity
- Alters the composition of mucin secreted by respiratory mucosa
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 2250 mg daily in divided doses, reduced to 1500 mg daily when response obtained
- Children dosage: 20 mg/kg body weight in divided doses
- Dosage for children 2-5 years: 62.5-125 mg 4 times daily
- Dosage for children 6-12 years: 250 mg 3 times daily
- Infant dosage: Not established

Contraindications
- Contraindicated in active peptic ulceration
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug
