Indications
- Treatment of mild, moderate or severe heart failure
- Reduction of disease progression
- Use in patients unable to tolerate ACE inhibitor
- Use in patients not receiving specific therapies
Pharmacology
- Non-selective antagonism of β-adrenergic receptors

Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose for hypertension: 12.5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for angina pectoris: 12.5 mg twice daily
- Initial dose for heart failure: 3.125 mg twice daily

Interaction
- Effect on digoxin levels
- Effect on rifampin
- In vitro plasma protein binding of warfarin
- Potentiation of clonidine withdrawal reaction
Contraindications
- Decompensated heart failure with intravenous inotropic therapy
- Bronchial asthma or related bronchospastic conditions
- Second or third-degree AV block
- Cardiogenic shock or severe bradycardia
