Description

Abaclor is indicated for respiratory tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections. It has stability against beta-lactamase, and is active against various organisms including Streptococci, Staphylococci, E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella, and Haemophilus influenzae.

Dosage and Administration

  • Adult dose: 250 mg every 8 hours, Pediatric dose: 20 mg/kg/day
  • Maximum dosage: 4 g/day for adults, 1 g/day for children
  • Dosage adjustments for renal impairment not usually required, Shortened half-life during hemodialysis

Interaction

  • False-positive reaction for glucose in urine with certain tests
  • Potential increased anticoagulant effect and prothrombin time when co-administered with oral anticoagulants

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporin antibiotics

Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Rare reports of transient hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, fever, abdominal pain, and superinfection

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy if clearly needed, Caution during nursing
