Description
Cefador is an acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin. It is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Urine concentration of this antibiotic, following a 1 gm dose, is maintained well above the MIC of susceptible urinary pathogens for 20 to 22 hours.
Pharmacology
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), arresting cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1 g per day
- Children dosage: 30 mg/kg daily
- Administration with or without meals
- May be taken with meals or on empty stomach
- Diminishes potential gastrointestinal complaints
- Divided doses
Interaction
No significant drug interaction with other drugs
Contraindications
Contradicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or any of its ingredients

US FDA pregnancy category B. Caution during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
May cause pseudomembranous colitis. Caution in patients who develop diarrhea
