Indications

• Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
• Treatment of urinary tract infections
• Treatment of skin & soft tissue infections

Description

• Acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
• Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
• Maintains urine concentration above MIC of susceptible pathogens

Pharmacology

• Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
• Binds to penicillin-binding proteins
• Arrests cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dosage: 1-2 g per day in divided doses
• Children dosage: 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses

• No significant drug interaction reported

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or its ingredients

• Well tolerated overall
• Commonly reported side effects: gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity

Pregnancy & Lactation

• FDA pregnancy category: B
• Limited studies in pregnant women
• Excreted in human milk, caution during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• May cause pseudomembranous colitis
• Caution during diagnosis in patients with diarrhea
