Indications

Description

  • Acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
  • Rapid absorption after oral administration
  • Maintains urine concentration above MIC of susceptible urinary pathogens

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Binds to penicillin-binding proteins
  • Inhibits transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage for different infections
  • Child dosage in divided doses every 12 hours
  • May be taken with or without food

  • No significant drug interaction

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or any ingredients

Side Effects

  • Well-tolerated with gastrointestinal disturbances
  • Commonly reported side effects include hypersensitivity phenomena

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • US FDA pregnancy category B
  • Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
  • Excreted in human milk, caution during lactation
