Indications

  • Treatment of moderate to severe pneumonia
  • Treatment of febrile neutropenia
  • Treatment of uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections
  • Treatment of uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
  • Treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action
  • Mode of action similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics
  • Disruption of bacterial cell wall synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Intravenous administration
  • Dosage based on infection type and severity
  • Administration over approximately 30 minutes

Interaction

  • Monitoring renal function with aminoglycosides
  • Potential nephrotoxicity with concomitant administration

Contraindications

  • Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to cefepime or cephalosporin antibiotics
  • Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin or other betalactum antibiotics

  • Serious adverse events in geriatric patients with renal insufficiency
