Description
- Broad-spectrum antibiotic for parenteral administration
- Indicated for lower respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, urinary tract infections, bacterial septicemia, bone and joint infections, gynecologic infections, intraabdominal infections, central nervous system infections

Function
- Bactericidal action by inhibiting enzymes responsible for cell-wall synthesis
- Treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of designated organisms
Dosage
- Usual adult dosage: 1 gram administered intravenously or intramuscularly every 8 to 12 hours
- Dosage depends on susceptibility of causative organisms, severity of infection, patient's condition and renal function
- Adult dosage range: 1 to 6 gm per day 8 or 12 hourly (IM/IV)
- Usual dosage range for children: 30 to 100 mg/kg/day, given as two or three divided doses
