Indications
- Treatment of ocular infections involving the conjunctiva and/or cornea caused by Aristophen-susceptible organisms
Pharmacology
- Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 or 2 drops in the conjunctival sac 4-6 times per day for the first 72 hours
- Treatment should be continued for approximately 7 days
- Should not be continued for more than 3 weeks without re-evaluation by the physician
Interaction
- Chymotrypsin may be inhibited if given simultaneously with Aristophen
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to Chloramphenicol or any ingredients of the preparation
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse reactions: burning, stinging, conjunctival hyperemia, blood dyscrasia, allergic or inflammatory reactions, vesicular and maculopapular dermatitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety for use in pregnancy and lactation has not been established
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid prolonged treatment to prevent blood dyscrasias
- Avoid use for minor infections or prophylaxis
Overdose Effects
- Accidental ingestion is unlikely to cause toxicity due to low antibiotic content

Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool (between 2°C-8°C) and dry place
- Protect from light and keep out of reach of children
- Do not touch the dropper tip to the surface
