Indications

Pharmacology
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an alkylamine antihistamine
- Potent histamine H1-receptor blocking agent
- Causes less sedation than promethazine
- Blocks H1-receptor competitively
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 4 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 24 mg daily
- Child dose (6-12 years): 2 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 12 mg daily
- Child dose (2-5 years): 1 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 6 mg daily
- Child dose (1-2 years): 1 mg twice daily
- Not recommended for use below 1 year
Interaction
- Incompatible with calcium chloride
- Incompatible with kanamycin sulfate
- Incompatible with noradrenaline acid tartrate
- Incompatible with pentobarbital sodium
- Incompatible with meglumine adipiodone
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to this agent
- Contraindicated in newborn or premature infants

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not to be used in lactating mothers
- Avoid use in pregnancy, especially during the first trimester
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with glaucoma
- Use with caution in patients with prostatic hypertrophy
- Caution in driving vehicles and operating machinery
Overdose Effects
- CNS depression (including sedation, apnea, CV collapse)
- CNS stimulation (including insomnia, hallucination, tremors, convulsions)
- Tinnitus
- Blurred vision
- Dizziness
- Ataxia
- Hypotension
- Stimulation and atropine-like signs and symptoms (including dry mouth, fixed dilated pupils, flushing, hyperthermia, Gl symptoms), more likely in children
