Indications
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis relief

Pharmacology
- Potent H1 receptor antagonist
- No significant anticholinergic effects
- No significant antiserotonic effects
- Inhibition of histamine-mediated allergic reaction
- Reduction of inflammatory cell migration
- Reduction of mediator release in allergic reaction

Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonfuls daily
- Children 2-6 years dosage: 1 teaspoonful once daily or 1/2 teaspoonful twice daily
- Children 6 months to 2 years dosage: 1/2 teaspoonful once daily
- Maximum dose for children 12-23 months: 1/2 teaspoonful every 12 hours
- Adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older injectable dosage: 10 mg
- Children 6 to 11 years injectable dosage: 5 mg or 10 mg depending on symptom severity
- Children 6 months to 5 years injectable dosage: 2.5 mg
- Single use injectable product for intravenous administration
- Intravenous administration once every 24 hours as needed for acute urticaria
- Intravenous push over a period of 1 to 2 minutes
- Not recommended in pediatric patients less than 6 years of age with impaired renal or hepatic function
Interaction
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Theophylline
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Azithromycin
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Pseudoephedrine
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Ketoconazole
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Erythromycin
- No significant drug interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Cetirizine
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine
Side Effects
- Most common side effect: somnolence
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category: B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Drug excreted in human milk
- Caution advised when administered to nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised when driving or operating heavy machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Total body clearance reduction in mild to moderate hepatic and renal impairment
- AUC and half-life increase by about 2 to 3 fold in hepatic and renal impairment
- Plasma levels unaffected by hemodialysis
- Safety demonstrated in pediatric patients aged 6 months to 5 years
- Clearance reduction in elderly patients
