Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
Pharmacology
- Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker
- Valsartan blocks vasoconstrictor effects of Angiotensin II
Dosage & Administration
- Effective in once daily doses of 2.5 mg - 10 mg for Amlodipine
- Effective in doses of 80 mg-320 mg for Valsartan
- Antihypertensive effects increased with increasing doses
- Majority of effect attained within 2 weeks
Interaction
- No drug interaction studies conducted for the combination
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components of this product
Side Effects
- Peripheral edema
- Nasal congestion
- Sore throat
- Discomfort when swallowing
- Dizziness
- Upper respiratory tract infection
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category D
- Not excreted in human milk
- Potential adverse effects on nursing infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid fetal or neonatal exposure
- Assess for hypotension
- Warn patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease about risk of myocardial infarction
- Titrate slowly in patients with impaired hepatic or severely impaired renal function
