Indications

Description

Dosage & Administration

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of its excipients
  • Known serious hypersensitivity to other parenteral iron products
  • Anaemia not attributed to iron deficiency
  • Evidence of iron overload or disturbances in iron utilization

Side Effects

  • Infrequent, mild side effects
  • Nausea, headache, dizziness, hypertension, injection site reactions
  • Alanine aminotransferase increased, hypophosphataemia
  • Uncommon and rare side effects

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No adequate and well-controlled trials in pregnant women
  • Benefit/risk evaluation required before use during pregnancy
  • Animal data suggest potential influence on fetal skeletal development
  • Treatment confined to second and third trimester if benefit outweighs potential risk
  • Unlikely risk to breast-fed child based on limited data

Precautions & Warnings

  • Serious hypersensitivity reactions reported
  • Monitor for signs and symptoms of hypersensitivity during and after administration
  • Risk of shock, hypotension, loss of consciousness
  • Transient elevations in systolic blood pressure
  • Laboratory test alterations in the 24 hours following administration

Use in Special Populations

  • Max daily injection dose in haemodialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease patients
  • Not recommended in children under 14 years

Overdose Effects

  • Accumulation of iron in storage sites potentially leading to hemosiderosis
  • Monitoring of iron parameters recommended
  • Consider use of an iron chelator if iron accumulation has occurred
