Indications

  • Treatment of hypertension

Pharmacology

  • Block vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin-II
  • Increase excretion of Sodium and Chloride
  • Reduce plasma volume
  • Decrease serum Potassium

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual starting dose of 20/12.5 mg once daily
  • May be titrated to two tablets 40/25 mg once daily based on blood pressure response

Interaction

  • No significant drug interactions reported with Olmesartan Medoxomil
  • Possible interactions with Thiazide diuretics when administered concurrently with drugs such as alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, antidiabetic drugs, corticosteroids, lithium

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
  • Anuria
  • Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

Overdose Effects

  • Manifestations of hypotension and tachycardia
  • Electrolyte depletion
  • Dehydration resulting from excessive diuresis
