Description
- Ivermectin selectively binds to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in invertebrates
- Indicated for the treatment of strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, filariasis, scabies, and head lice
- Dosage includes single or multiple tablets based on body weight
- Post-marketing reports of increased INR when co-administered with warfarin
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component
- Side effects include fatigue, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal discomfort, nervous system reactions, skin reactions, arthralgia, lymph node enlargement, pruritus, skin involvement, fever, and more
- Pregnancy Category C, should not be used during pregnancy, excreted in human milk
- Historical data suggest potential reactions in patients with onchocerciasis, especially those with hyperreactive onchodermatitis
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients weighing less than 15 kg have not been established, geriatric use not sufficiently studied

Dosage & Administration

- Recommended dosage for onchocerciasis to provide approximately 150 mcg of Ivermectin per kg of body weight on an empty stomach
Interaction
- Co-administration with warfarin may lead to increased INR
