Indications

  • Treatment of hypertension

Pharmacology

  • Dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker
  • Vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects blocker

Dosage & Administration

  • Once daily doses
  • Antihypertensive effects increase with increasing doses
  • Dosage can be increased to maximum once daily as needed
  • May be administered with or without food
  • May be administered with other antihypertensive agents
  • Initiation dosage for elderly patients
  • Renal impairment dosage adjustment
  • Hepatic impairment dosage adjustment

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any components of the product

Side Effects

  • Mild and transient nature
  • Common side effects include peripheral edema, nasal congestion, sore throat, discomfort when swallowing, upper respiratory tract infection, dizziness

  • Pregnancy Category D
  • Unknown excretion in human milk
  • Potential adverse effects on the nursing infant
  • Discontinuation decision should consider drug importance to the mother

Precautions & Warnings

  • Avoid fetal or neonatal exposure
  • Assess for hypotension
  • Warn patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease
  • Titrate slowly in patients with impaired hepatic or severely impaired renal function
