Indications
- Treatment of eczema
- Treatment of dermatitis
- Treatment of atopic eczema
- Treatment of photodermatitis
- Treatment of otitis externa
- Treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Treatment of insect bite reactions
Pharmacology
- Topically active corticosteroid
- More effective than Hydrocortisone for eczemas
- Little effect on hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal function
- Causes less thinning of the epidermis
Dosage & Administration
- Apply to the affected area up to four times a day
- Frequency of application may be reduced after improvement occurs

Contraindications
- Not to be used on skin lesions caused by viruses, fungi, or bacteria
- Hypersensitivity to the preparations
- Potential for adrenal suppression in infants and children
- Caution required in dermatoses in infants and children
Side Effects
- Signs of hypersensitivity may appear
- Transient adrenal suppression possible for large areas of the body being treated
- Local atopic changes possible with increased moisture absorption
- Reports of pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis
- Exacerbation of symptoms may occur
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Inadequate evidence of safety in human pregnancy
- Small risk of fetal abnormalities
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause systemic effects when topically applied to large areas or broken skin
- Not to be used indiscriminately for pruritus
- Caution in patients with peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychoses, severe psychoneuroses, CHF, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, glaucoma, infectious diseases, ocular herpes simplex, chronic renal failure, and uraemia
- Prolonged use on face is undesirable
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage is very unlikely
- Chronic overdosage or misuse may cause hypercorticism
