Indications
- Treatment of nasal congestion
- Treatment of acute or chronic rhinitis
- Treatment of common cold
- Treatment of sinusitis
- Treatment of upper respiratory allergies
- Treatment of epistaxis
- Treatment of hay fever
Pharmacology
- Contains Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride
- Acts as a direct agonist at α-adrenoceptors
- No action on β-adrenoceptors
- Causes rapid and long-acting vasoconstriction of arterioles
- Reduces blood flow and diminishes mucosal swelling
- Improves airway potency
- Aids in drainage of nasal sinus
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 2-3 nasal sprays twice daily for 3-5 days
- Elderly dosage: No need for dosage reduction
- Not suitable for children below 6 years of age
- Adults & children 6 years of age: 2-3 drops of 0.05% Nasal Drops twice daily
- Children 2-5 years of age: 2-3 drops of 0.025% Nasal Drops twice daily

Interaction
- Should not be given to patients being treated with MAO inhibitors
- Should not be given within 14 days of ceasing MAO inhibitor treatment
Contraindications
- Not suitable for patients with cardiovascular disease
- Not suitable for patients with hyperthyroidism
- Not suitable for patients with prostatic enlargement
- Not suitable for patients with angle closure glaucoma
- Not suitable for patients with hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- May cause local irritation
- May cause dryness of the mouth and throat
- May cause burning or stinging sensation
- May cause sneezing
- May cause increase in nasal discharge
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety during pregnancy and lactation not established
- Not thought to constitute a hazard during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid contact with the eyes
- Do not use for longer than seven days without medical advice
- Frequent or prolonged use may cause nasal congestion to recur or worsen
Overdose Effects
- May cause local irritation
- May cause rebound congestion
- Treatment need only be symptomatic
