Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
Pharmacology
- Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker
- Valsartan blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of Angiotensin II
- Amlodipine and Valsartan have been shown to be effective in lowering blood pressure
Dosage & Administration
- Effective dose of Amlodipine: 2.5 mg - 10 mg once daily
- Effective dose of Valsartan: 80 mg - 320 mg once daily
- Dosage can be increased after 1 to 2 weeks of therapy to a maximum of 10/320 mg once daily
- Can be administered with or without food
Interaction
- No drug interaction studies conducted with Amlodipine and Valsartan combination
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components of this product
Side Effects
- Common side effects include peripheral edema, nasal congestion, sore throat, discomfort when swallowing, dizziness, etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category D
- Not known whether Amlodipine or Valsartan is excreted in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid fetal or neonatal exposure
- Assess for hypotension
- Titrate slowly in patients with impaired hepatic or severely impaired renal function
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in paediatric patients have not been established
