Indications
- Treatment of hypertension alone
- Treatment of hypertension in combination with other antihypertensive agents
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of calcium influx into smooth muscle cells
- Competitive inhibition of voltage-dependent calcium 'L' channels
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 2 mg once daily
- Dose can be increased to 4 mg and then to 6 mg after 3 to 4 weeks
- Should be taken preferably in the morning
Interaction
- Plasma concentration may be increased by simultaneous administration of cimetidine
- No specific pharmacodynamic interaction problems identified in studies with common antihypertensive agents or with digoxin, tolbutamide, or warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Cardiogenic shock
- Unstable angina
- Aortic stenosis
- Avoid within 1 month of myocardial infarction
- Impaired left ventricular function

Pregnancy & Lactation
- No data on safety of Lacidipine in human pregnancy
- No evidence of teratogenic effect in animal study
- Likely excretion of Lacidipine (or its metabolites) into breast milk
- Lacidipine should not be used during pregnancy or lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Cardiac conduction abnormalities
- Poor cardiac reserves
- Hepatic impairment
- Withdraw if ischemic pain occurs shortly after initiating treatment or if cardiogenic shock develops
- Avoid grapefruit juice
Use in Special Populations
- No data on safety or efficacy of Lacicard in neonates
- Treatment with Lacicard not evaluated in Children
- Severe hepatic impairment: Reduce dose
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms: Prolonged peripheral vasodilation associated with hypotension and tachycardia
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment for management
