Lacitab 2 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents

Pharmacology

• Inhibits calcium influx into smooth muscle cells by competitive inhibition of voltage-dependent calcium 'L' channels

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended initial dose of 2 mg once daily
• May be increased to 4 mg and then to 6 mg after 3 to 4 weeks
• Preferably taken in the morning

Interaction

• Plasma concentration may be increased by simultaneous administration of cimetidine

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
• Cardiogenic shock
• Unstable angina
• Aortic stenosis
• Avoid within 1 month of myocardial infarction
• Impaired left ventricular function

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Gastro-intestinal disturbances
• Gum hyperplasia
• Mood disturbances
• Asthenia
• Polyuria
• Muscle cramps
• Skin rash

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No data on safety in human pregnancy
• No evidence of teratogenic effect in animal study
• Likely excreted into breast milk
• Should not be used during pregnancy or lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Cardiac conduction abnormalities
• Poor cardiac reserves
• Hepatic impairment
• Withdraw if ischemic pain occurs shortly after initiating treatment or if cardiogenic shock develops
• Avoid grapefruit juice

Use in Special Populations

• No data on safety or efficacy in neonates
• Treatment not evaluated in children
• Severe hepatic impairment: Reduce dose

Overdose Effects

• Prolonged peripheral vasodilation associated with hypotension and tachycardia
• Bradycardia or prolonged AV conduction
• Symptomatic and supportive treatment
