Description
- Cholcut is indicated for patients with primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia to reduce elevated total-C, LDL-C, ApoB, non HDL-C and TG levels and to increase HDL-C.
- It is also useful for patients with hypertriglyceredemia, primary dysbetalipoproteinemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), slowing the progression of atherosclerosis, pediatric patients 10 to 17 years old with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH), and risk reduction of Myocardial Infarction (MI) and stroke in patients with multiple risk factors.
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose range is 5-20 mg/day with maximum recommended dose of 20 mg/day for Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia in Pediatric Patients (10 to 17 years of age).
- 40 mg once daily for very high cholesterol and high risk of MI or stroke.
- 20 mg once daily recommended starting dose for Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
Pharmacology
- Rosuvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, producing lipid-modifying effects by increasing hepatic LDL receptors and inhibiting hepatic synthesis of VLDL.
Drug Interaction
- Cyclosporine, Gemfibrosil, Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir, and coumarin anticoagulants are notable drug interactions.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to product components, liver disease, pregnancy, and nursing mothers are contraindications for Rosuvastatin.
Side Effects
- Common adverse events thought to be related to Cholcut include headache, myalgia, constipation, asthenia, abdominal pain and nausea.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Rosuvastatin should be administered to women of childbearing age only when conception is highly unlikely and after informing patients of potential hazards. Discontinue therapy immediately if pregnancy occurs.
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribe with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy, and discontinue therapy if markedly elevated creatinine kinase levels occur or myopathy is diagnosed or suspected.
Overdose Effects
- No specific treatment in the event of overdose, supportively treat symptoms as required.
