Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Pharmacology
- Biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug

Dosage & Administration

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients

Side Effects
- Hemolytic anemia
- Lactic acidosis (very rare)
- Decreased vitamin B12 absorption

- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Liver function test abnormalities or hepatitis
- Skin reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Uncontrolled diabetes associated with increased risk during pregnancy
- Recommends insulin use during pregnancy
- Metformin excreted into human breast milk
- No adverse effects observed in breastfed newborns/infants
- Breastfeeding not recommended during metformin treatment
Precautions & Warnings
- Substantially excreted by the kidney
- Increases risk of lactic acidosis with impaired renal function
