Indications

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Management of type 2 diabetes in overweight patients
  • Monotherapy for adults with type 2 diabetes
  • Combination therapy with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin
  • Use in children from 10 years of age and adolescents
  • Reduction of diabetic complications in overweight patients

Pharmacology

  • Biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug
  • Lowers both basal and postprandial plasma glucose
  • Different mechanism of action from sulfonylureas
  • Does not produce hypoglycemia
  • Decreases hepatic glucose production
  • Improves insulin sensitivity

Dosage & Administration

Contraindications

Side Effects
