Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
Doxophylline selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and has decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children (>12 years of age): 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children (6-12 years of age): 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
Interaction
Avoid administering with other xanthine preparations, limit consumption of caffeine, and exercise caution with ephedrine or sympathomimetic drugs
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- Lactation

Pregnancy & Lactation
Use of the drug during pregnancy should be evaluated carefully case by case on the basis of the risk-benefit ratio. The drug is contraindicated during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Caution advised in patients with various conditions such as cardiac disease, hypertension, severe hypoxemia, and renal impairment
Overdose Effects
May lead to severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizure

Storage Conditions
Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children. Should be used only on prescription of a specialist physician
