Indications

Pharmacology
- Selective alpha1 adrenoceptor blocking agent
- Improvement in urine flow rate
- Reduction in symptoms of BPH
- Absorption rate under fasting and fed conditions
- Plasma protein binding
- Metabolism by cytochrome P 450 enzymes
- Elimination half-life
- Apparent half-life in healthy volunteers and target population
Dosage & Administration
- 0.4 mg (one capsule) daily
- Possible dose increase after 2 to 4 weeks
- Administration after meal at night
- Recommendation for swallowing whole with water
- Instructions on not crushing or chewing the capsule
Interaction
- Potential hypotensive effects of concurrent alfa1-adrenoceptor antagonists
- No interactions with atenolol, enalapril, or nifedipine
- Impact of cimetidine and frusemide on plasma levels
- No interactions at the level of hepatic metabolism observed during in vitro studies
- Possible increase in elimination rate with diclofenac and warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin hydrochloride
- History of orthostatic hypotension
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Caution advised for reduction in blood pressure
- Examination to exclude other conditions
- Caution in driving, operating machinery, or performing hazardous tasks
Side Effects
- Reported adverse reactions: dizziness, abnormal ejaculation
