Indications
- Hypertension
- Cardiovascular prevention

Pharmacology
- Non-peptide angiotensin-ll receptor antagonist
- Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone secreting effects
- Selective blocking of AT1 receptor
Dosage & Administration
- Individualized dosage
- Starting dose of 40mg once a day
- Blood pressure response is dose-related
- Usual range of 20 to 80mg
- Maximal reduction after 4 weeks

Geriatric use
- No overall differences in effectiveness and safety observed
Hepatic impairment
Monitor carefully and up titrate slowly
Interaction
- Increased risk of renal impairment with NSAIDS
- Avoid co-administration with aliskiren in diabetes patients
