Description
Rivastigmine is a medication used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease dementia. It belongs to the therapeutic class of drugs for dementia and exerts its pharmacological effect by inhibiting cholinesterase activity, leading to an increased concentration of acetylcholine at cholinergic synapses.
Dosage Instructions
- Initial dose of 1.5 mg twice a day
- Dose titration based on tolerability up to 6 mg twice a day
- Transdermal patch dosage ranging from 4.6 mg/24 hours to 13.3 mg/24 hours
Administration
Administered twice a day, with morning and evening meals
Interaction
- Exaggeration of succinylcholine-type muscle relaxants during anesthesia
- Possible interference with other cholinomimetic substances and anticholinergic medicinal products
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or other carbamate derivatives
