Dosage & Administration
- Individualized dose by titration
- Administered with food
- Once-daily dosing available
- Intravenous administration for adults and children
- Intravenous infusion in hypertensive crises
- Slow intravenous injection under electrocardiographic control
- Average total dose up to 100 mg/day (adults)
Interaction
- May increase plasma level with CYP3A4 inhibitors
- May decrease plasma level with CYP3A4 inducers
- Increased risk of bleeding with aspirin
- Potentiation of hypotensive effect
- Neurotoxic effect with lithium
Contraindications
- Severe left ventricular dysfunction
- Hypotension or cardiogenic shock
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Second or third-degree atrioventricular (AV) block
- Patients with atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation and an accessory by-pass tract
- Known hypersensitivity to verapamil hydrochloride

Overdose Effects
