Description
- Used for bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, COPD, and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
- Structurally differs from Theophylline due to the presence of a dioxolane group in position 7
- Selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Reports of inhibition of platelet activating factor (PAF) and generation of leukotriene production
- Dosage for elderly, adults, and children based on age and weight
- Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives, acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and during lactation
- Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, headache, irritability, insomnia, tachycardia, and more
- Animal tests have shown the active ingredient does not interfere with pre and postnatal growth, but use during pregnancy should be evaluated carefully
- Does not affect the patient's alertness and ability to drive and use machines
- Caution needed in patients with factors that may influence the clearance of xanthine derivatives, cardiac disease, hypertension, and renal impairment
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizure may occur in case of overdose

Pharmacology
- Novel bronchodilator
- Selective inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Reports of inhibition of platelet activating factor (PAF) and leukotriene production
Dosage administration
- Dosage for elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily or as prescribed
- Dosage for children based on age and weight, syrup or tablet
Interactions
- Avoid administration with other xanthine preparations and limit caffeine consumption
- Exercise caution with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration of certain drugs may reduce hepatic clearance
- Phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking may increase clearance
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- During lactation
