Indications
- Treatment of bronchial asthma
- Treatment of bronchospasm
- Treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Treatment of pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Doxophylline selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Inhibits platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibits leukotriene production
Dosage & Administration
- Elderly dosage: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adult dosage: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily or as prescribed
- Children dosage (above 12 years): 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children dosage (6-12 years): 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
Interaction
- Avoid administration with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of beverages and food containing caffeine
- Exercise caution when administering with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, etc., may reduce hepatic clearance

- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension

- Caution in patients with cardiac disease
- Caution in patients with hypertension
- Monitoring blood levels for control of therapeutic range
