Description
Unibac is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. It is indicated for the treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI), Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, and more.

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued for up to 14 days if required
- Recommended adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily for URTI and LRTI
- Recommended children dosage: 8 mg/kg/day, with specific volume of suspension for different age groups
- Dosage for typhoid: 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10-14 days
Interaction
- Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in a few patients
- Care should be taken in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

- Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

- Given with caution to penicillin-sensitive patients
- Administered with caution in patients with markedly impaired renal function

- Gastric Lavage may be indicated
- No specific antidote exists
