Description

Unibac is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. It is indicated for the treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI), Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, and more.

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
  • Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall

Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued for up to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily for URTI and LRTI
  • Recommended children dosage: 8 mg/kg/day, with specific volume of suspension for different age groups
  • Dosage for typhoid: 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10-14 days

Interaction

  • Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in a few patients
  • Care should be taken in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

  • Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

  • Administered with caution in patients with markedly impaired renal function

Overdose effects

  • Gastric Lavage may be indicated
  • No specific antidote exists
