Vastarel MR 35 mg (Tablet (Modified Release))

Indications

• Add-on therapy for stable angina pectoris
• Inadequately controlled by first-line antianginal therapies

Pharmacology

• First 3-keto acyl CoA thiolase inhibitor
• Metabolic anti-ischemic agent
• Inhibition of fatty acid pathway
• Transfer of oxygen to glucose pathway
• Increase in heart's activity

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended dose: 35 mg twice daily or 20 mg thrice daily during meals
• Assessment of treatment benefit after three months
• Discontinuation in absence of treatment response

Interaction

• No reported drug interaction
• No interaction with beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, nitrates, heparin, hypolipidemic agents, or digitalis preparation

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
• Parkinson's disease or symptoms
• Tremors, restless legs movement disorders
• Severe renal impairment

Side Effects

• Safe and well tolerated
• Common side effects: dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, rash, pruritus, urticaria, asthenia

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No data on use in pregnant women
• Preferable to avoid use during pregnancy
• Unknown excretion in human milk
• Risk to newborns/infants cannot be excluded
• Avoid use during breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

• Not curative treatment for angina attacks
• Not initial treatment for unstable angina pectoris
• Not treatment for myocardial infarction
