Pharmacology
- Exhibits anti-inflammatory properties
- Exhibits analgesic properties
- Exhibits antipyretic properties
- Mode of action involves inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Available in 500 mg & 750 mg Tablet
- Also available as 1000 mg Tablet for mixing in water
- Recommended starting dose is 1000 mg
- Can be taken with or without food
- Dosage may be increased to 1500 mg - 2000 mg for symptomatic relief
- Different dosages for patients with renal insufficiency
- Not recommended for pediatric patients
Interaction
- May diminish antihypertensive effect of ACE-inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nabumetone or its excipients
- Patients with asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Contraindicated for the treatment of peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

- Gastrointestinal effects like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
- Central Nervous System effects like dizziness, headache
- Dermatologic effects like rash
- Special Senses effects like tinnitus
- Miscellaneous effects like edema
Pregnancy & Lactation

- Not recommended for use in nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Associated with renal papillary necrosis
- Renal toxicity associated with conditions leading to reduced renal blood flow or volume
- Greatest risk in patients with impaired renal function, heart failure, liver dysfunction, those taking diuretics, and the elderly
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include lethargy, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain
- Rare occurrences of hypertension, acute renal failure, respiratory depression, and coma
- No specific antidotes
- Supportive care is advised following a NSAID overdose
