Indications
- Breast Cancer treatment
- Non-small Cell Lung Cancer treatment
- Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer treatment
- Gastric Adenocarcinoma treatment
- Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck treatment
Pharmacology
- Acts by disrupting the microtubular network in cells
- Promotes the assembly of tubulin into stable microtubules
- Inhibits the disassembly of microtubules
- Binds to free tubulin, decreasing critical intracellular concentration
Dosage & Administration
- Administered intravenously over 1 hr every 3 weeks
- Different dosages for different types of cancer treatment
- Use 21 gauge needle to withdraw docetaxel from the vial
- Premedicate with oral corticosteroids
- Adjust dose as needed
Interaction
- CYP3A4 substrate
- Metabolism may be modified by concomitant administration of certain compounds
Contraindications
- Neutrophil counts of less than 1500 cells/mm3
- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to docetaxel or polysorbate 80

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Can cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant women

Precautions & Warnings
- Administered under the supervision of an experienced physician
- Higher risk in patients with hepatic impairment
- Should not be given to patients with neutrophil counts less than 1500 cells/mm3
- Risk of severe hypersensitivity reactions
- Treatment related acute myeloid leukemia may occur
Overdose Effects
- No known antidote
- Expect exacerbation of adverse events
- Primary anticipated complications: bone marrow suppression, peripheral neurotoxicity, mucositis
