Description

Pharmacological Action

  • Bactericidal effect on both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cross-linking process in bacterial cell wall

Dosage Forms

  • Oral capsules
  • Injectable solutions

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: Urinary tract infections - 500mg-1g four times daily
  • Respiratory tract infections - 250-500mg four times daily
  • Children: Dosage based on weight and infection type
  • Elderly and Renal Impairment: Dose adjustment required

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
