Indications
- Treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)

- Marked in-vitro bactericidal activity against wide variety of organisms
Pharmacology
- Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic
- Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
- Adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended dosage for children based on age and weight
Interaction
- Potential increase in prothrombin times in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
Side Effects
- Common gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea
- Central nervous system reactions like headache and dizziness
- Hypersensitivity reactions including rash, pruritis, and urticaria
- Hematological and clinical chemistry effects such as thrombocytopenia and eosinophilia
