Description
Bisofar 5 mg Tablet is a beta-blocker medication used for the treatment of hypertension, angina, and heart failure.
Indications
- Hypertension
- Angina
- Moderate to severe heart failure
Pharmacology
- Mode of Action: Selective ß1 blocker
- Heart Rate Reduction: Reduces heart rate and cardiac output
- Arterial Hypertension: Decreases arterial hypertension
- Lipid Metabolism Effect: Does not cause adverse effects on cholesterol fraction or HDL-cholesterol
Dosage Administration
- Adult: Usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg or 20 mg if necessary
- Children: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established
- Renal Hepatic Impairment: Initial daily dose should be 5 mg for patients with hepatic impairment or renal dysfunction
- Geriatrics: Dose adjustment may be necessary in elderly patients with significant renal or hepatic dysfunction
Interaction
- Contraindicated with Other β-blockers: Should not be combined with other β-blocking agents
- Catecholamine-Depleting Drugs: Patients receiving catecholamine-depleting drugs should be closely monitored
- Centrally Active Antihypertensive Agents: May exacerbate rebound hypertension which can follow the withdrawal of clonidine
- Antiarrhythmic Agents: Should be used with care when myocardial depressants or inhibitors of A-V conduction are used concurrently
Contraindications
- Cardiogenic Shock: In patients with cardiogenic shock
- Heart Failure: Overt heart failure
- A-V Block: Second or third degree A-V block
- Sinus Bradycardia: In patients with sinus bradycardia
