Description

Cefusil CV 250 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria. Cefuroxime is a bactericidal second generation cephalosporin antibiotic which is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative susceptible organisms. Clavulanic acid is a naturally derived beta lactamase inhibitor produced by Streptomyces clavuligerus. Cefusil CV 250 mg Tablet can be safely used in later pregnancy to treat urinary and other infections, and is excreted into the breast milk in small quantities.

Dosage

  • Adolescents and adults (13 years and older)-
  • Paediatric Patients (3 months to 12 years)-

Mode of Action

  • Bactericidal
  • Inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Interfering with the transpeptidation process

  • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis
  • Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
  • Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
  • Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia
  • Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
  • Bone and Joint Infections
  • Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea
  • Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans)
  • Septicemia
  • Meningitis

Contraindications

  • Known allergy to cephalosporin
  • Pseudomembranous Colitis

Interaction

  • Concomitant administration of probenecid with Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid increases the area under the serum concentration versus time curve by 50%
  • Drug that reduces gastric acidity may result in a lower bioavailability of Cefuroxime

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Safe to use in later pregnancy
  • Excreted into the breast milk in small quantities

Precautions & Warnings

  • Give with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
  • History of colitis
