Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Symptoms treated include sneezing, rhinorrhea, lacrimation, itchy, red eyes and itchy nose/palate/throat
Pharmacology
- Fexofenadine is an inverse agonist of the H1 histamine receptor
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of carrying antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage varies for adults, children 6-11 years, and children 2-11 years
- Different dosages for adults and children for allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria
Interaction
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole may increase fexofenadine levels
- No observed interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole
- Antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide may reduce bioavailability if taken 15 minutes prior to Fexsil
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea
- Uncommon side effects include fatigue, insomnia, nervousness, and diarrhea
- Rare side effects include tachycardia, palpitations, rash, urticaria, and pruritus
Pregnancy & Lactation
