Pharmacology
- Combination of two antacids (Calcium carbonate and Sodium bicarbonate)
- Alginate (Sodium alginate)
- Neutralizing excess stomach acid
- Forming a protective barrier over the stomach contents
- Physical mode of action
- Rapid reaction with gastric acid
- Formation of Alginic Acid gel with near neutral pH
- Protection from Acid, Pepsin and Bile
- Entrapment of bile and pepsin
- Fast relief from indigestion and heartburn
Dosage and Administration
- Oral suspension for adults and children over 12 years: 10-20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
- Oral suspension for children 6 to 12 years: 5-10 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
- Chewable Tablet for adults and children 12 years and over: Two to four tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
Interaction
- Time-interval of 2 hours should be considered between Algisum Max intake and the administration of other medicinal products
- Interaction with Tetracyclines, Digoxine, Fluoroquinolone, Iron salt, Ketoconazole, Neuroleptics, Thyroid Hormones, Penicillamine, beta-blockers, Glucocorticoid, Chloroquine, Biphosphonates, Estramustine
Contraindications
- Known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or excipients

- Constipation
- Flatulence

- Sensation of swelling
Pregnancy and Lactation
- Safe for use during pregnancy if clinically needed
- No negative effects shown in breastfed newborns/infants of treated mothers
- No effect on human fertility
Precautions and Warnings
- Each 20 ml of dose contains 254.5 mg of sodium
- Each 20 ml contains 260 mg of calcium
- Not recommended for children under 12 years except on medical advice
- High in sodium content
- Not to be given to patients with phenylketonuria
- Medical advice should be sought if symptoms persist or treatment is required for more than 7 days continuously
- Should not be used in patients with impaired renal function/insufficiency and with hypophosphatemia
