Dosage & Administration

  • 200 mg tid
  • 400 mg bid
  • 800 mg in the morning and 1-2 gm at night for 2 days
  • 2 gm as a single dose for 1 day
  • 100 mg tid for children 7-10 yrs
  • one applicator full of Metronidazole gel intravaginally once or twice a day for 5 days
  • 1 g every 8 hours for 3 days in adults for suppository

  • Treatment of septicaemia, bacteraemia, peritonitis, brain abscess
  • Treatment of urogenital trichomoniasis

  • Treatment of acute ulcerative gingivitis
  • Treatment of anaerobically infected leg ulcers and pressure sores
  • Antibiotic associated pseudomembranus colitis

Pharmacology

  • Member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drug
  • Classified as an antiprotozoal agent

Interaction

  • Disulfiram may cause psychotic reactions
