SRS-Saline 10.25 gm (Oral Powder)

Indications

• Replacement of fluid and electrolyte loss
• Acute diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Dehydration
• Fluid loss in patients of all age groups

Composition

• Sodium Chloride BP 1.30 gm
• Potassium Chloride BP 0.75 gm
• Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate BP 1.45 gm
• Glucose Anhydrous BP 6.75 gm

Pharmacology

• Prevents dehydration from diarrhea
• Treats dehydration from any etiology, including cholera
• Prevents acidosis due to electrolyte imbalance

Dosage

• Equivalent to patients' fluid requirement for maintenance and replenishment of losses
• Children less than 2 years: 50-100 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
• Children 2 to 10 years: 100-200 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
• Adult and children above 10 years: 200-400 mL after each loose stool or vomiting

Administration

• Disperse the full contents of the sachet in 500 mL of pure drinking water
• Do not mix with hot water
• Do not heat the prepared solution
• Discard the unused prepared oral saline after 12 hours of preparation

Interaction

• No known drug interactions

Precautions & Warnings

• Depressed renal function may need supplementation with parenteral fluids
• Severe continuing diarrhea may need supplementation with parenteral fluids
• Critical fluid losses may need supplementation with parenteral fluids
