Indications
- Treatment and prophylaxis of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiency during pregnancy and lactation
Composition
- Each capsule contains Elemental iron 50 mg (As carbonyl iron INN)
- Folic acid BP 500 microgram
- Zinc sulphate monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg zinc)

- Combination of Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate
- Carbonyl Iron with not less than 98% Iron content

Dosage & Administration
- Adult: One Capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician
Interaction
- Carbonyl Iron decreases the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penecillamine
- Folic Acid interacts with antiepileptics leading to possibly reduced plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any of its components
- Iron overload
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal irritations such as nausea, anorexia, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea
- Possibility of dark stool
- Rare allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use during the first trimester of pregnancy if possible
- Definite evidence of Iron deficiency required for Iron administration during the first trimester
- Justified prophylaxis of Iron deficiency with zinc and Folic acid supplement during the remainder of pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Special care in patients with Iron overload states
- Failure to respond to treatment requires further investigations to exclude other causes of anemia
- Risk of Zinc accumulation in patients with renal failure
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak rapid pulse, fever, coma, and seizures
